Family Sundays at the Royal Opera House are an absolute must-do for anyone with kids. For two years, I’ve been attempting to snag tickets for this coveted event, and every time I log in, it’s a swift sell-out. The popularity only added to its allure. Was it the affordable ticket prices—just £10 for adults and £8 for children—that drew such interest, or was it the event’s sheer quality? Well, after finally experiencing it, I can confidently say it’s the best bang for your buck when it comes to children’s events in London.

As we joined the queue at the entrance, the lively beats of fun music greeted us, setting the tone for the excitement to come. Inside the foyer, we were warmly welcomed and presented with a comprehensive list of available activities. The options were abundant, almost overwhelming—I’d recommend giving the brochure a once-over before arriving to streamline your choices. We didn’t, and it took us a bit to decide where to start.

From curated activities featuring artists, dancers, and singers to a vast array of arts and crafts, a VR section, and even a dress-up corner, there was something to capture every child’s imagination. But the true highlights were undoubtedly the ballerina performance, complete with an interactive Q&A session and the captivating musical production “Dewi in the Deep,” which cleverly imparts an eco-conscious message. The last was a musical production with an educational purpose on saving the planet. There is an Audiobook with illustrated booklet on Audible (https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Dewi-in-the-Deep-Audiobook/B0CZW7HWRR).

Exiting the Opera House, we felt exhilarated yet pleasantly exhausted, as if we’d embarked on a full day’s adventure. The café provided welcome refreshments, but families were also free to bring their own snacks. With plenty of friendly staff guiding us through the corridors and stationed at each activity, getting lost was virtually impossible. Plus, the main doors were monitored, ensuring no one could wander off unattended. The level of organization and staffing was truly impressive.

We’re already looking forward to our next visit. The Royal Opera House’s Family Sundays offer an unparalleled blend of entertainment, education, and engagement that’s sure to delight both young and old.
